NEWCU works hard to ensure your savings work hard for you
Start saving from as little as £1.00
You can start saving with NEWCU with as little as £1.00 and benefit from layered interest rates that encourage you to save more and discover the route to greater financial security. Every member receives a personal passbook so keeping track of your savings is easy.
Covered by Financial Services Compensation Scheme
Members are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The FSCS can pay compensation to the depositors if a credit union is unable to meet its financial obligations. Most depositors - including most individuals and businesses - are covered by the scheme.
Easy Access and Share accounts
Wages, pensions and benefits can be paid into your 'Easy Access' account. You can then withdraw money from this account or have it transferred into your share account for a minimal cost, no-profit transaction fee. Note: An Easy Access account does not attract dividends.
A competitive dividend is paid annually in November on all savings kept within the credit union during the financial year from the 1st October of the previous year to 30th september of the current year. Savings (which can be deducted from sources weekly or monthly) achieved a 1.525% dividend for the year ending September 2014.
Membership for of our Junior Gold scheme is open to young people from birth to 16 years of age. On reaching 16, a Junior Gold Member's account may automatically be transfered to an adult savings account.
Junior Gold members get their own distinctive 'gold' passbooks and documentation. Parent, grandparents and guardians can open a Junior Gold account on a young person's behalf if the young person lives or goes to school within NEWCU's Common Bond area. In getting young people off to a good start in life, you are also teaching them about good personal money management for later.
Junior Gold is covered by the same regulations as the as the adult saving schemes and as such is fully protected by FCA rules.
